My GOALS for 2018-2022

21st Century Facility Upgrades
Many of our buildings were built for an education system that was built for the 1950's.  In the 21st century education has moved from desks in rows to shared collaborative spaces that have access to appropriate technology.  Our teaching and learning spaces need an overhaul to provide a competitive experience for ALL students.  This would include renovations that would include areas to accommodate a reintroduction of the trade skills.
School Start Times
As witnessed by many districts nearby we need to address the biorhythms of the adolescent brain to maximize teen health and learning.  Our high schools need to start later than 7:20am and research shows that an 8:30am start time would be more appropriate and advantageous.

Transportation
We need to address an equity issue regarding access to opportunity for ALL students. In several situations in our district students and/or families are having to provide their own transportation to access a desired educational program as well as extracurricular activities.  We need to address where we can make adjustments to allow ALL students equal access to any and all of our offerings.

NSBA

National School Board Association | San Antonio, TX

Given the challenges facing public education and efforts to restrict – or in some cases, even eliminate – the governance role of school boards, the need for a strong and effective National School Boards Association never has been greater. Our efforts to be the premier advocate for public education in America, through our work in the legislative, legal and public arenas, are directly impacting public policy. The focus on serving member state associations and, through them, school boards, is increasing capacity to make local governance and the public education system even better.

Advocacy and member service establish a trajectory that will continue to define NSBA’s work in the coming years. This will involve: leading the national conversation about public education; confronting those who would seek to privatize or otherwise undermine the nation’s system of public schools; proposing our own plans to ensure that all students everywhere have access to a great public education where they live; and providing the services and support state school boards associations need to enhance the effectiveness of local school boards. And, to make all this possible, NSBA will make as a continuing priority the strengthening of its financial position and internal capacity.

Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development | Anaheim, CA

The vision of ASCD is to change the world—one child at a time. ASCD empowered me to help my students develop essential skills that extend beyond calculating square roots. While these skills are important, ASCD believes that supporting the whole child requires engaging students to prepare them for navigating their careers, contributing to their communities, and identifying their interests.

ASCD's primary focus is on transformational leadershipglobal engagementpoverty and equityredefining student success, and teaching and learning—the components we need to help advance student achievement and support them holistically.
